Far gone are the days of manual bookkeeping and ledger books, in fact so to are the days of manual data entry to accounting software!!!  The evolution of our space quill-and-ledger-booksee is moving faster than I can pour a wine after work!  Bookkeepers and Accountants need to adapt to these changes to survive the wave of digital disruption.

Don’t get me wrong, the changes are exciting and the bookkeeping and accounting space is even more fantastic to be part of in 2016 and beyond, but our roles are changing form data entry and compliance alone – to sleuth and architectural designer for the business process to ensure businesses have the best possible accounting software and add on solutions mix to support their individual business needs.

There has been some noise that automation will be the death knell for bookkeeping, in fact quite the opposite!  Businesses and their accountants are now driven to bookkeepers to untangle them from technology messes that they don’t understand or have the time to fix themselves.  Whilst the technology makes the accounting process automated and “easier”, the set up is now quite complicated, with many options and add on solutions – and this part requires expert consultation.  After all, automation doesn’t deal with the human factor (yet)!
